Intervention needed
· India being the largest democratic country, in order to bring peace for neighbouring country democracy has to be established.
· India needs to solve the border problem along with the problem of Rohingya crisis.
· Kaladan multi modal project is still not completed, transportation is essential for better economic integration.
Cautious approach
· India has a complex relationship with the civilian government and military in Myanmar.
· While backing democratic forces in Myanmar, India has retained close contacts with the military because of security concerns related to its northeastern states.
· India also believes its contacts with Myanmar’s military help balance China’s influence within the neighbouring country.
· So the Indian side has not publicly criticised Myanmar’s handling of the Rohingya crisis.
· The military seizing power was due to fault lines related to politics, ideology and personality, and India’s response will be guided by past lessons.
