No need to define about dowry, avoid listing out points and explain the flowchart briefly. Keep Writing.

KEY POINTS

·        The Dowry Prohibition Act was passed 60 years ago. Nor for lack of education: Kerala has near-total literacy, yet weddings continue to be lavish.

·        The larger context for the practice of dowry is the poor presence of women in the workforce, and their consequent lack of financial independence.

·        Women should be supported to take up jobs and have independent incomes, expand childcare and safe public transport, reduce discrimination in hiring.

·        There is a need to create affirming workplace environments, men should share domestic work and care responsibilities.

·        As for domestic violence, there should be zero tolerance. Support systems must be expanded to help victims with shelter, like Swadhar scheme.

·        With over two and a half lakh gram panchayats in rural India, if registration is decentralised to panchayat secretaries, it will be accessible to rural families and can spend less.

For an equal society

·        Similarly, millions of women’s self-help groups in India have been a quiet force for financial support in times of stress. Women’s self-help groups should be systematically oriented about violence against women and the existence of local support systems.

·        By actively spreading awareness and displaying solidarity, women’s self-help groups can play a powerful role in building a more equal society.
