KEY POINTS

·        ONDC seeks to promote open networks, which are developed using the open-source methodology.

·        Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) to address the issue of digital monopolies, derive efficiencies in logistics and enhance value for consumers.

·        They will encourage the usage of standardised open specifications and open network protocols, which are not dependent on any particular platform or customised one.

·        With ONDC, it is possible you can expose products on various platforms at the same time.

·        The move by the government indicates offering an open network protocol that enables location-aware local commerce across industries to be discovered and engaged by any network-enabled application.

·        On ONDC, buyers and sellers may transact irrespective of the fact that they are attached to one specific e-commerce portal.

·        This will be most impactful for MSMEs and small traders looking to unlock value and scale their operations through the digital commerce space.

·        The proposals also seek to prevent the e-commerce giants from giving deep discounts and have exclusive tie-ups with preferred sellers.

·         This will be a first-of-its-kind initiative in the world to create a level playing field for digital commerce.
