PLEASE REVIEW:-
Automated Teller Machine (ATM) is an electro-mechanical machine used to withdraw cashfrom bank account itself. Various banks in India introduced this system of transaction for simplifying work of bank as well as account holders.
Though banks provide alot of security to these machines by using unhackable softwares, system of PIN, sending OTP of transactions, Still criminals found many ways to bypass these security measures. One of these methods is Skimming. Skimming is the method in which criminals put a machine on card insertion slot which reads the data on the magnetic chip. For password they use mini camera placed above keypad. Sometimes they also put duplicate keypad to recognise ATM pin.
Following measures can be used to prevent such type of frauds:-
1) Checking by bank officials once a week for such machines.
2) Providing ATM's with security guards 24x7.
3) Spreading awareness in people through various platforms.
4) There can be a system of OTP with pin as well.
5) Upgrading ATM cards and ATM machines timely.
These types of scams get their space daily in newspaper. It is must to take necessary measures to prevent such scams.
