The world is at the dawn of a "New Space Age". It will be imperative for India to take the rightful place in this emerging global setting as "space systems are becoming an essential ingredient of national security" in the wake of geopolitical tensions.

The Union Cabinet announced the formation of the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe)- to promote the participation of private industries in space activities, including planetary exploration missions through an ‘announcement of opportunity’ mechanism.

>>> IN-SPACe : redefine future of space exploration -

- Govt's landmark decision to create a new space organisation - is in line of the vision "Atmanirbhar Bharat" and is a part of an important set of reforms to open up the space sector and make space-based applications and services more widely accessible to everyone.

-  will provide a "level playing field for private companies" - who had a barely three per cent share in a rapidly growing global space economy - to use Indian space infrastructure and will guide them “through encouraging policies and a friendly regulatory environment”.

- will fulfill the growing demand for space-based applications and services such as- satellite data, imageries of weather, agriculture, etc., - that ISRO alone is unable to cater. Thus, it work as an extension into ISRO and not as a separate institition.

- will enable ISRO to focus more on research and development activities, new technologies, exploration missions and human spaceflight programme.

>>> Conclusion :

IN-SPACe is supposed to be a facilitator, and also a regulator. It will act as an interface between ISRO and private parties, and assess how best to utilise India’s space resources and increase space-based activities.
