·         In 1991, Supreme Court (SC) directed the Central government and all State governments to provide compulsory environmental education to all students.

·         Further, the court had directed “corporate organisations, research and education institutes, NGOs” to create awareness on the same.

·         However, despite such efforts, and the reach of the court’s order, climate change seems to find low salience in everyday lives and conversations.

Significance

·         Education is an essential element of the global response to climate change.

·         It will help to address the root causes of climate change, mitigate the damage, and adapt to its effects.

·         It will assist young people understand and address the impact of global warming, encourages changes in their attitudes and behaviour.

·         It helps to increase the resilience of already vulnerable communities who are the most likely to be adversely affected by climate change.

·         If properly structured, it will not only foster climate literacy, but also reorient the entire system to achieve low-emission and climate-resilient development.

Suggestions

·         At present, climate change is not specifically mentioned as a domain permissible under “Corporate Social Responsibility” (CSR) mandate. A more specific mention will help it gather more attention.

·         Rope in more corporate organisations to create awareness, mitigation and resilience-building.

·         Scaling up current initiatives of the corporate and social sectors to regional or national levels would be an early, albeit challenging, solution.

·         Similarly, the film industry, book writers, and gaming companies could design their products with an appeal in this regard.

Introduction:

Several incidences happened around us like floods, landslides, earthquake, increase in atmosphere temperature, excessive rainfall, drought etc. Since these experiences created fear about climate change and its impacts. These adverse effects and devastation provides deep impact about the environment related thinking and awareness. Various environment related organizations reports related with climate change and procedures gives goverment to rethink about sustainable environment adaptability and issues mitigation. But, Climate change awareness among people is  not sufficient with current issues. Apart from school education and day to day related news, none of the other useful communicated information related resources reached people, especially vulnerable people. We must have the deliberative system to widespread climate change related awareness to our masses.

Efforts in Climate change awareness and Education:

The UN Sustainable Goals Report 2017, World Health organization and World Bank reports shows that future impacts related with climate change would be tragic, huge financial, burdens will check the govt and other institutional policy measures. Despite govt best efforts through school education and other related timely actions, global warming and climate change causes the hunger and human displacement. According to the WHO, nearly 2,50,000 deaths will reach in 2030 to 2050. Similarly, malnutrition and health related problems will arise due to unprecedented natural calamities. On the other hand, nearly govt need to spend huge financial amount in future to mitigate these problems. In order to adapt these situation, from school to universities people should be streamline according to the present condition. Multiple govt projects and NGO's efforts made people to knowing about air, water and land pollution and other climate management activities helps to mitigate some problems. But these efforts and projects are not sufficient to face the future related issues.

Environment education should be provided in all educational institutions as per the supreme court direction, could possibly make good environment related tasks for the students both theory and practical exposure to experience the date collection and awareness through the outputs. Experimental exhibitions, stalls and awareness camps will provide the discussion among students to think future implementation plans with sustainable environment. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) plays vital role role to invest and create atmosphere among employees to engage in environmental related activities. possible involvement and financial services helps govt to create new policies to improve the mitigation and adaptability.

NGO's involvement and people participation in the climate change is important one, which provides connectivity through all community awareness, could include the educated persons to reach the vulnerable sections of people to provide details environment related awareness, create culture about future predictability, health related measure should provide to them in detailed manner to safe their environment. Apart from other resources and planning, govt can consider and divert some financial assistance to research and development and diversified projects for climate change mitigation.
